We were having septic tank problems a few of years ago. The water started backing up into the house. The toilets were no flushing correctly & the clothes washing machine, we had to just wash 1/2 loads or when it was draining it would flood the washroom. So we had the septic tank pumped out. We, like most people don't have it pumped out regularly like it is recommended.
The guy said we would start having problems again very soon if we didn't have our field lines replaced which I can't afford at this time. That being said I started looking into alternative solutions.
I found Down Johns online and it made a lot of sense so I tried it and my problems did not return like I was warn'ed and I've used it every year since and the problem has never returned. Last year I started using a foaming root killer as well, as a supplement to this because we do have trees in the yard so just in case I could be having root problems I do that as well. But I have to say when I started using Down Johns my backed up water problems stopped. It is well worth the investment!

Our septic system is 15 years and we have been following a scheduled pumping every 5 years. The system backed-up in June, 2023, and we started using DOWNJOHN after the system was pumped and restored. We used DOWNJOHN a 2nd time in June, 2024. So far, there have been no problems, but its too soon to determine the ultimate effectiveness of DOWNJOHN. As retirees on a limited income, we are hoping to prolong the life of our system using DOWNJOHN!!

I live in East Texas. I have been using Down John in my very old septic for several years now. It couldn't be easier to use. I have not had to have my septic tank pumped since starting this. I think of this as a yearly check up for septic tank. I am so pleased that I found Down John. I have this is on yearly subscription so I don't even have to remember to order. Our septic system started to have an odor so we had it pumped and the field line cleared at the cost of $2700.00. We thought this was an extreme amount to pay since the same process was completed just four years before for 750.00 The odor was still present even after the $$ treatment.

We have been using Down John at our two residences for several years and have not experienced any problems with our septic systems. It is easy to use. we spend 9 months at one residence ans 4 months at the second so it is easy to restart the system every year when we relocate.

Im convinced that this product just plain works. After moving into a new home, we obviously got our first pump to set a schedule. My septic guy is a family friend and he gives it to me straight. We were told our tank hadnt been pumped in quite some time and it wasnt looking like a healthy system. Fast forward 4 years of down john, we get nothing but glowing remarks and this last time he even asked what product we used. So far so good. It does take a few months so have patience. I have not treated my septic since 1983 and had it pumped for first time. The leech lines were plugged up pretty good. After 3 months thing were flowing again.

After 14yrs of use, with pumping at 4 or 5 yrs, our system backed-up after only 3 years. We were told to have the system pumped after 3 years, and if there were still problems, we would need to rebuild the septic field (which is $$$). After doing research, we found Down John and have treated our system. Hard to believe only 3 days treatment last a full year. We will pump the tank after 3 yearly treatments with Down John and we'll see whether Down John lives up to it's reputation!

I was diligently using Rid-X to combat tank sludge, drainage issues and odors….I discovered Down John from a targeted social media add after researching septic issues via the internet. Down John peaked my interest, I began reading reviews and navigated to the Down John website to perform more due diligence. I purchased my first order, quickly received the order and started the 3-step Down John treatment the next day…..I was well aware that I would not be aware of the results immediately, however the week or two after I added Down John, we began to really encounter strong septic odors that lasted for 2-3 days…..my assumption was that Down John was engaged in an epic “good vs. evil” battle within our septic tank…..a couples months have now passed and I’m not joking when I say that septic odors are virtually undetectable even after a heavy water use day, laundry, etc….. it is also very apparent that our leach field is working better and is void of the isolated ponding we would witness after heavy water use days. I am confident that the benefits of Down John will continue to show as time marches on and I can’t wait to schedule a clean-out/pump service at the 1 year mark from adding Down John, just so I can eagerly witness the tank reveal. I used to use rid-X monthly. This product has not only been easier but I can see the differences in my leach field. The grass is just flourishing over top of it. I have to mow that more than the rest of my yard. Great product.

I have only used it several months but my drain field wet spot is not as wet as it had been. Is it because we are having drier weather or because of DOWN JOHN? I feel the treatment is helping but I will need to use it for a while yet because my system is old and was poorly maintained. Try it yourself but don't expect to see results overnight!!

After 2 years in our new-to-us home, we started having septic problems. Our septic system was basically on its last leg. A friend replaced the destroyed junction boxes from a Willow tree in the yard. Once junction boxes and new lines were installed he recommended we start using Down John. Been using it since 2019 and haven’t had one issue since. Love the ease of it and the once a year use. Nothing really worked to good as I have older system.
On busy days there would be some minor odor at times.
Last 2 years I used Down John and never not ones I have any odor or any issues. Hands down Down John is the best product I ever used and always will.

After two years of using Down John my 30 year old septic is looking like NEW!
Just had my septic flushed for regular maintenance and was told that everything looks great now! 30+ year old system. Before I started using it two years ago. I was told that I should look at putting in an EXPENSIVE Aerobic system. Tried Down John as a "last hope" and IT IS WORKING!!!. My lateral lines are a being cleaned and there are NO problems. While I noticed a slight improvement after about 6-8 months, there is now a HUGE change from a couple of years ago. Septic is working like it was new.
If someone on this website is complaining about Down John after only two or three MONTHS of use, its because they haven't given it a chance to work. Don't forget that there are usually YEARS of sludge and buildup that it has to work through.

To sell our house we were required to have our septic tank pumped and certified. It had been five years since our septic tank was pumped. We have been using Down John for two years. When the septic tank man pumped our tank he asked, "Does anybody lives here?" Yes, two of us live here. The septic tank man certifying our tank said, "It's so clean it almost looks brand new!" That sold us on Down John, we won't be using anything else from now on.
